Do they sense it, these dead writers, when their books are read? Does a pinprick of light appear in their darkness? Is their soul stirred by the feather touch of another mind reading theirs? I do hope so.
The more I read, the more I acquire, the more certain I am that I know nothing.
The smell of earth after rain
is called Petrichor, and it is caused by Geosmin.
Geosmin is an organic compound with the formula C12H22O. It’s produced by several classes of microbes, including cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and actinobacteria (especially Streptomyces), and released when these microbes die. The human nose is extremely sensitive to geosmin and is able to detect it at concentrations as low as 5 parts per trillion.
If you allow yourself out in nature, open your ears to the sounds that surround you. Synchronize yourself with the universe’s heartbeat by listening to natures rhythms. This will only ground you, allowing you to be present within that moment.
Allow your breathes to be in time with whatever it is you hear: the oceans waves, he rustling of the leaves, the rain dripping from leaf to leaf, thunder…
You are part of nature. Allow your body to be in tune with Mother Nature’s symphony.
